The Makings of a Porch

The cement for the porches has been poured today.
It made them look much larger.

One of the back porches.

And the other one.
This girl is getting excited!

Okay, now I'm looking for a porch swing.

Pantry Ideas From Pinterest

Here are some Pinterest pantry ideas.

From houzz.com

I like the doors, the light, and, of course, the leaded glass transom window!

These doors are pretty interesting, too.

I like this door the best!
What do you think?

Window Shipment is Here

Now we are getting somewhere!!

The windows and the front door have arrived.

We ordered them from Lansing Building Products, they were the only company that had the transom that I wanted for the front door.
And I must tell you, it is awesome.

There are triple windows, double windows with transoms, and I think every window is a different size.

Some of these windows are very heavy.
But don't worry, I was out there to supervise!

Before long they will be installed and you will be the first to know!

We Have a Garage

So far this week we have a garage added on to the rest of the house.

I don't think that I have mentioned who our builder is, his name is JR Cabra.

He and his crew are doing a great job.

Big Ran is not around today and wanted me to post some pictures of it, so here they are.

This picture was taken from inside the garage.

This is the hallway, half bath, mudroom, laundryroom, and pantry.

This is getting pretty exciting for me!!

This New House is Moving Right Along

We have walls!

I have been told that all the outside walls should be up today.
Yay!!

Putting the ceiling in the basement makes the basement seem much larger.

I had to get a picture of the guys in action.

Now I have to get the plans and figure out exactly where I want all of the inside walls to go.

No small task.

Wish me luck.

Progress, Progress, Progress

So far we have beams up in the basement.
The stairs are boxed in.
Some of the floor is being laid.

Doesn't look like a house to me yet.

Here is a view from the basement up.

I never had any idea how many tresses it takes to hold up a floor.
I will feel very safe walking across it.

Just taking you through every step of the way.

Building Supplies Have Arrived

Our first load of supplies have arrived.

Maybe this is really going to happen!

We have been picking out windows, doors, columns for the front porch, siding, shingles, and much more.

I will keep you updated on all of the decisions that we have been making.

I would love to hear form some of you about your house building/remodeling experiences

These decisions are a lot harder to make than I would have ever guessed.

Doors and Windows

Well, today we went shopping for windows and doors for the outside of the house.
We are waiting for bids to come back in from 2 different companies.
Here is a picture of what the front door that I have picked out looks like.

ODL door glass - Elegant Star Caming
No, it is not green or red.
It's the glass work that I am talking about.

What do you think????

Massive Rock Wall

Yes, we are still working on the new house!!

We are working on some landscaping and ground work so all the water from rain or snow goes away from the house instead of toward the house.

This is a massive stone wall.

It is at the walk out from our basement.

It takes some heavy machinery to get these rocks lifted and put in place.

This is the finished project.

I am in love with it!!

Now we need to get the other side done!!

Street to House Plumbing

We are getting stuff done around here for the new house.

Here are some pictures of the plumbing going in.

This is our line hooked up to the city's meter.

Dig, Dig, Dig!

We are putting a bathroom in the barn, so we now have water and sewer hooked up to the barn .

This is our connection to the new house.

And I have water to the garden!!!

No more lugging the three water hoses to the garden spot!

Yay!!

 Aren't the tress getting beautiful!?

Big Ran has the sump pump in.

Tonight they are starting on the big rock wall down by the basement walkout.
I will post pictures on it soon!!

Footings for the Basement

I first blogged this post last summer.

Yes, we have news on the progress of the new house.

Over the last few weeks we did get some things started. There is a hole dug for the basement.

The footings have been mapped out.

.

And poured.

  WRONG!!

Do you see all that space to the right of the picture here?

The footings were supposed to go out 5 more feet.

So we had to break some of it up and pour some more!

We start pretty early around here!

The new correct footings are in and now the walls go up.

Now Big Ran and I get to tar the basement walls.

We started this project after I got home from work around 3:00 pm in 100 degree heat.

Needless to say, I didn’t last very long!
'

Shafer looks pretty tiny in there looking for a place to raise his leg and relieve himself.

That is our 15 foot walkout from the basement to add a little light down there.

It has been a productive summer, slow but sure.

Shafer is always helping.

He doesn’t want to miss a thing.

The plumbing starts in a couple of weeks.

Stay tuned for more exciting adventures!!
